Gojukan Jujitsu Dojo

Gojukan Dojo Welcome

We practice the style of Japanese Kawaishi Jujitsu and Sport Jujitsu. Our mentor and professor of the style is Dr Heribert Czerwenka-Wenkstetten, whom passed away in 2006. Our chief instructor and mentor of South Africa is Tommy Thomson, currently a seventh Dan.

You will find that the study of the art of Jujitsu is exciting, lots of fun, healthy, and will help you in many individual ways. It will help you develop respect for yourself and others. It will also provide you with a very effective form of self-defence should you need it.

A full instructional program is planned for each class. You should arrive at least 10 minutes before class. If you arrive late you may prevent the class from starting on time.

You are expected to be clean in mind and body when you arrive. Nails should be cut short and clean. Gi (practice clothing) should be clean at all times. If you are not clean you may not be allowed to participate in the class or no one may want to work out with you. Please show respect to yourself and others.

One of the most important aspects of any martial art is courtesy, respect for oneself and others. You should follow the directions of the higher ranking students. The higher ranking students will be expected to provide a proper example to you to follow. You should cooperate with higher ranking students at all times. If you disagree with a higher ranking student, see the instructor immediately. Rudeness to any student will not be tolerated. The instructor is concerned with safety and well-being. All instructions will be given with that in mind.

On behalf of the other instructors in the program I hope you will enjoy your stay in the class and be with us a long time. I hope that you will participate fully in the program and take advantage of every opportunity made available to you for individual growth -- mentally, emotionally and physically.
